Binders
PTSi’s Asphalt Binder Group has extensive capabilities including SUPERPAVE binder certification, as well as rheological capabilities such as solid-torsion testing and repetitive creep testing. The Asphalt Binder Group’s exceptional knowledge of asphalt chemistry aids in determining the usability of binders for end uses such as asphalt emulsions or polymer modification. PTSi has experience with hundreds of asphalt sources around the world. Polymer modification is perhaps the greatest strength of the Asphalt Binder Group, with years of experience blending polymers and asphalt for applications in roofing, waterproofing, protective coatings, and paving.
Pavement Design
PTSi’s Pavement Design Group offers various methods of design for Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) mixtures. HMA design capabilities include but are not limited to: Marshall, SUPERPAVE, Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA), Open-Graded Friction Course (OGFC) and Dense Graded Hot Mix Asphalt. PTSi’s Pavement Design Group has a diverse range of experience in testing HMA mixtures, from asphalt extractions to rut depth analysis of roadway cores. PTSi also offers HMA “proof” testing by means of the Asphalt Pavement Analyzer (APA) and Hamburg Wheel Tracking Device. PTSi is an industry leader in the areas of Micro-Surfacing and Slurry Seal Design, Cold Mix Design, and Specialty Surface Treatment Design.
Emulsions
PTSi’s Asphalt Emulsion Group has decades of experience in formulating and testing products for paving and specialty applications. In addition to materials science, our extensive process experience makes PTSi uniquely qualified to provide cost-effective solutions in various circumstances. Chemical emulsions are formulated for pavement maintenance and specialty paving applications. Colloidally suspended emulsions are formulated for metal coating, corrosion resistance, and various construction purposes.
